The organization launched a fundraising campaign.
PINK Armenia plans to open support centers for representatives of the LGBT community in Vanadzor and Gyumri in 2018. This will contribute to the expansion of freedoms and empowerment of Armenian LGBT community to continue its struggle for equality in the country, where homophobia level reaches 90% according to the Caucasian Research Resource Center study. The organization launched a fundraising campaign.
The LGBT community center in Yerevan runs on the basis of the Public Information and Need for Knowledge non-governmental organization, wider known as PINK Armenia, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in December.
The LGBT community center makes a safe environment available for lesbians, gays, bisexual, transgender and queer people. The work of PINK Armenia activists provides these people an opportunity to receive professional assistance in Yerevan.
The center’s key activities are psychological, social, legal and communication support by the community of like-minded people. The center provides various trainings, individual consultations, legal services are available free of charge. It should be noted that organization provided services and support to thousands of people during its operation.
Nvard Margaryan, President of PINK Armenia:
“We recently launched a fundraising campaign, which will be aimed at the opening of LGBT community centers in two more Armenian cities: Gyumri and Vanadzor.
As PINK Armenia is an organization founded by the LGBT community, our aim is to meet the needs of LGBT people, as well as to protect human rights.
Our needs assessment revealed an urgent necessity to mobilize members of the LGBT community in regions that are much more vulnerable and in need of safe spaces to be themselves. If you share the values of security and integrity, please join our campaign and support by donating”.
It should be noted that although the above-mentioned services are available in Yerevan, they are still inaccessible to those who live in the regions of Armenia. That’s why launch of such centers is feasible in Armenian cities Vanadzor and Gyumri. The maintenance cost includes logistics, rental, water supply in the center, the services of professional psychologists, social workers and lawyers, and is estimated at approximately USD33,000.
