UNICEF supported the idea of holding the camp.
More than 170 participants from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan will attend the camp, as well as more than 15 international level trainers from Germany, the USA, Russia and Ukraine.
“We asked UNICEF to support the idea of holding an international summer camp for children living with HIV in 2018 and they supported us. A preliminary arrangement was worked out that on the basis of this camp pediatricians, psychologists and sociologists working with such minors will be trained, as well as the children themselves and their parents”, the director of the Republican AIDS Center Ulan Kadyrbekov told the press center of the Ministry of Health.
In Kyrgyzstan, there are 7,666 HIV cases among citizens of the country. Of these, more than 600 are children. These data are provided by the Republican AIDS Center as of May 1, 2018.
“Children take medication every day and ask questions. Many parents cannot answer them. The disclosure of the status allows children to consciously adhere to antiretroviral therapy. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare the adolescent’s mind to accept the fact that HIV is an infectious disease that is currently incurable, but when taking drugs there is a real opportunity to prolong the life span without deteriorating its quality”, the Ministry of Health noted.
