The Civil Society Forum on HIV/AIDS calls the EU to intervene on Global Fund withdrawal

November 11, 2016

The EU Civil Society Forum on HIV sent the following statement to the European Commission ahead of the Board of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria next week which will decide on how much money countries around the world will receive to help the millions of people living with these deadly diseases. The CSF are deeply concerned about the European Commission insistence of cutting funds to countries in South Eastern and Eastern Europe, in situations where the epidemics is not under control and where transition from international to domestic funds is not yet properly in place. We are calling on the European Commission to adhere to a comprehensive and coherent approach to address the HIV, viral hepatitis and TB epidemics in Europe.

The EU HIV/AIDS Civil Society Forum (CSF) is an informal advisory body established in 2005 by the European Commission to facilitate the participation of NGOs and networks, including those representing People Living with HIV/AIDS, in European policy development and implementation as well as to exchange information. It is co-chaired by Sini Pasanen from AIDS Action Europe and Luis Mendão from European AIDS Treatment Group.
