148 people were diagnosed with HIV in 3 months in Azerbaijan

Almost all of them are Azerbaijani citizens.

In the first three months of 2018, the number of newly diagnosed HIV-positive people was 148. This figure was reported by the working group of the Commission on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, APA reports.

According to statistics, only three of them are foreigners, all the rest are Azerbaijanis.

Since the moment of the first case of HIV detection in 1987 and up to April 1, 2018, 6,903 HIV-positive people have been registered at the National AIDS Center. Of these, 6,680 (66.8%) are Azerbaijani citizens, 223 (3.2%) are foreigners.

5,037 (73%) of the infected are men, 1,866 (27%) are women.

3,087 (44.7%) of these 6,903 persons are PWID, of which 2,270 (73.5%) are enrolled on dispensary registration.
